  1     EXT/INT.- BEAT SHEET - DAY                                                 1

This beat sheet is a tool used to outline and structure the screenplays effectively. It consists of 15 key beats, each serving a specific purpose in advancing the narrative and engaging the audience. It provides a framework for structuring screenplays, particularly in the realm of feature films.

ACT I:

OPENING IMAGES 

his is the first image the audience sees when the movie begins. It sets the tone for the story and often contrasts with the final image to show character development or a change in the story's world.

THEME STATED

This beat introduces the central theme or moral of the story. It's usually stated explicitly or implicitly by a character, setting the stage for the journey ahead.

SETUP

It is time to introduce or hint at introducing every character in the primary Story.

This concludes the first ten pages of the script. This is one of the most important sections of the script because it provides the essential context needed for the audience to become either immediately engaged, or lose interest within the first ten minutes.

CATALYST

Also known as the inciting incident, this beat is a significant event that disrupts the protagonist's ordinary life and sets the main story in motion. It forces the protagonist to react and begin their journey.

DEBATE

After the catalyst, the protagonist typically hesitates or debates whether to embark on the journey presented by the inciting incident. This beat explores their internal conflict and the stakes involved in their decision.

BREAK INTO TWO

The protagonist makes a definitive decision to pursue the story's goal, marking the end of the set-up and the beginning of the main conflict. They commit to their goal and take action.

This is the best time to introduce the audience to a subplot, eliminating the chances of monotony and keeping the audience immersed in the story.

B STORY

This beat introduces a subplot or secondary storyline that runs parallel to the main plot. The B story often provides additional depth to the protagonist's character arc or explores themes from a different perspective.

FUN AND GAMES

In this beat, the protagonist experiences the joys and challenges of pursuing their goal. It's usually a more lighthearted and entertaining section of the story, showcasing the protagonist's initial successes and setbacks.

MIDPOINT

The midpoint is a turning point in the story where the stakes are raised or the protagonist's goals are redefined. It marks a shift from the fun and games to the more serious and intense second half of the story.

BAD GUYS CLOSE IN

As the protagonist gets closer to their goal, obstacles and challenges intensify. This beat represents a series of setbacks or complications that threaten to derail the protagonist's progress.

ALL IS LOST

The lowest point for the protagonist. They face a major setback or loss, forcing them to confront their limitations and reconsider their goals. It sets the stage for the character's ultimate transformation.

DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL

A moment of reflection and despair for the protagonist. They question their abilities, the choices they've made, and the possibility of success. It's a crucial beat for character development.
 

BREAK INTO THREE

The protagonist finds a renewed sense of purpose, understanding, or power. They emerge from the darkness with a new plan or strategy, ready to face the challenges ahead.

ACT III:

The "Synthesis" of two worlds: From what was, and that which has been learned. The climax of the story where the protagonist confronts the main obstacle or antagonist.

FINALE

This is the moment of highest tension and the ultimate test of the character's growth and abilities.

FINAL IMAGE

Similar to the opening image, this is the last impression the audience gets. It reflects the transformed world or the character and provides a sense of resolution, emphasizing the journey's impact.
